Born in PT, lives in Lisbon (PT).
The work of Pedro Barateiro asks questions about what kind of identity an artist can make for himself when he lives and works in an ocean of readily available data. The artist navigates with necessary precision between the role of the connoisseur (of art history and contemporary mass culture) and that of the commentator (of colonial histories and current politics). Barateiro is convinced that you need to keep things simple so that complexity can find its own way back into them.
