Born in Amsterdam ().
Rob Scholte works with images. The images he collects from the mass media and his personal archive, are reinterpreted, placed in entirely different contexts and given new meaning.
Scholte works with a large number of assistants, who produce his meticulously painted works, which Scholte then signs.
As an artist Scholte fits perfectly into the postmodern tradition. He mainly emphasises the permanent stream of images that surround us and influence us. He criticises the manipulation that takes place in the media, and yet he also makes use of it himself.
