M HKA gaat digitaal

Met M HKA Ensembles zetten we onze eerste échte stappen in het digitale landschap. Ons doel is met behulp van nieuwe media de kunstwerken nog beter te kaderen dan we tot nu toe hebben kunnen doen.

We geven momenteel prioriteit aan smartphones en tablets, m.a.w. de in-museum-ervaring. Maar we zijn evenzeer hard aan het werk aan een veelzijdige desktop-versie. Tot het zover is vind je hier deze tussenversie.

M HKA goes digital

Embracing the possibilities of new media, M HKA is making a particular effort to share its knowledge and give art the framework it deserves.

We are currently focusing on the experience in the museum with this application for smartphones and tablets. In the future this will also lead to a versatile desktop version, which is now still in its construction phase.

Het M HKA heeft werken in permanente bruikleen die werden verworven met het budget van de Vlaamse Commissie voor Beeldende Kunst (1982-2002). Aanvankelijk een breed, sociaal gericht, ondersteunend beleid zou dit in zijn nadagen steeds meer een gerichte museale oriëntatie krijgen dat lacunes trachtte in te vullen en gericht keuzes maakte. Dit beleid is sinds 2003 opgegaan in het topstukken- en sleutelwerkenbeleid en een kleine som ervan zou ook tijdelijk het aankoopbeleid van het M HKA versterken.

Een deel van de huidige collectie bestaat uit permanente bruiklenen van werken die mettertijd door de Vlaamse Gemeenschap werden aangekocht, in uitvoering van het gefederaliseerde cultuurbeleid. Deze aankooptraditie, op voorstel van adviescommissies, ontstond uit de intentie van de overheid om kunstenaars te steunen en om kunst te brengen in overheidsgebouwen en –ruimtes.

Een aantal van deze kunstwerken maken mee deel uit van de collectie van het M HKA.

Belangrijk vooral zijn enkele ensembles die naar het M HKA konden komen in de nadagen van het aankoopbeleid, toen steeds meer met een museaal oogmerk werd aangekocht, en uiteindelijk curator Dirk Snauwaert aankopen mocht doen. Hiermee konden enkele lacunes worden gevuld die ontstonden door de steeds verminderde aankoopcapaciteit van het M HKA; werken van David Claerbout en Thys & de Gruyter, ensembles van Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven en Francis Alÿs. Via het topstukken- en sleutelwerkendecreet dat het vervolg van deze traditie had moeten zijn, kon een belangrijke lacune worden gevuld; het M HKA had geen museaal werk van Panamarenko, bij Christie’s werd de Prova Car (1967) aangekocht en een aantal jaar daarna de Zwitserse Fiets (1967). In 2015 verwierf M HKA het  sleutelwerk Ship of Fools van Allan Sekula.
