Ensemble: JEUGDWERK
Nicole Van Goethem est née le 31 mai 1941 et a grandi à Anvers. Enfant, elle a fréquenté l'école des filles de Marie des sœurs Paridaens de la Sint-Jozefstraat, une école de filles francophone réputée où «la petite Nicoleke» n'était pas à sa place. Elle a dit qu'elle-même était une étudiante coquine qui était souvent renvoyée chez elle. Une des sœurs a conseillé à sa mère de la laisser simplement signer. Ce conseil a été suivi: Au lycée, Van Goethem a étudié les Arts Décoratifs à l'Institut Technique Sint-Maria à Anvers, où elle est arrivée première dans un concours de dessin organisé par l'école. Après le lycée, elle décide d'étudier la flûte au Conservatoire d'Anvers et se produit en tant que membre de l'ensemble baroque Consortium Antiquum. À cette époque, elle suit également des cours du soir à l'Académie royale des beaux-arts d'Anvers.
