Details, inconspicuous elements from our environment – cracks in the road or sidewalk – are central to the paintings of Koen Van den Broek. He renders them in a clear, descriptive manner. Still, the motifs are depicted in such a way that the focus is not immediately clear, or shifts. The paintings balance on the border of abstraction and figuration. Sometimes the title offers an answer, like the case here with Orange border, while in other cases the title lacks a concrete interpretation.
