Edgardo Antonio Vigo

1928 - 1997

Born in La Plata (Argentina).

In the course of his career, the Argentine artist and poet Edgardo Antonio Vigo (1928-1997) publishes several magazines. As a promoter of visual poetry, he uses the magazine as a mouthpiece for his compositions and those of his peers, which are difficult to publish. Like other neo-avant-garde work of the sixties, the 'integration' of the various art forms plays an important role in the process. Together with the painter Miguel Angel Guerena, Vigo publishes his first magazine in 1958, called WC, soon followed by a second,DRKW. The latter however was short-lived too. It is only with Diagonal Cero, and its first issue in 1962, that Vigo succeeds in giving greater coherence and permanence to his publications.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation.
