This novel is an unauthorized sequel to Richard Prince\u0026rsquo;s appropriation of JD Salinger\u0026rsquo;s \u003cem\u003eThe Catcher In The Rye\u003c/em\u003e. For his book, Prince reproduced the second edition of Salinger\u0026rsquo;s \u003cem\u003eCatcher\u003c/em\u003e, replacing Salinger\u0026rsquo;s name on the cover with his own but leaving most of the text untouched. The source material for my novel is John David California\u0026rsquo;s \u003cem\u003e60 Years Later\u003c/em\u003e, an unauthorized sequel to Salinger\u0026rsquo;s \u003cem\u003eCatcher\u003c/em\u003e whose US publication was blocked by Judge Deborah Batts (the same judge who heard photographer Patrick Cariou\u0026rsquo;s copyright infringement lawsuit against Richard Prince). California\u0026rsquo;s \u003cem\u003e60 Years Later\u003c/em\u003e was eventually published in Europe but cannot be sold or marketed in the United States. For Doeringer\u0026rsquo;s version of the book, he made some small changes to the original novel, most notably replacing the original author\u0026rsquo;s name with his own and replacing every mention of \u0026ldquo;JD Salinger\u0026rdquo; (who appears as a character in the novel) with \u0026ldquo;Richard Prince\u0026rdquo;.
