Hans Eijkelboom
° 1949
Born in Arnhem (), lives in Amsterdam ().
Amsterdam-based photographer Hans Eijkelboom belongs to a generation of artists who, in the late sixties and early seventies, were both witness to, and instrumental in, the dissemination of photo-based conceptual art practices throughout continental Europe – of concept art’s programmatic, radical questioning of photography and image production more generally. Eijkelboom’s lifelong interest has revolved around the seemingly straightforward documenting of everyday life, and street life more specifically; his subsequent visual anthropology of the human species in all its public colorfulness has a strong humanist flavor, marrying the detached photography-by-numbers of Douglas Huebler with the empathic gaze of August Sander and the journalistic street photography tradition.
