Jumana Manna

° 1987

Lives in Berlin (DE), born in Princeton, New Jersey (US).

Jumana Manna’s practice in sculpture and film focuses on the power dynamics surrounding the processes through which history and places are constructed and consumed. She reanimates these dynamics to form installations that evoke landscapes, sites of labour and bodies in states of uncanny mutation. Ways of knowing and knowledge classifications have been recurring themes in her recent works. At times those are explored as living archives, and in the acts of collecting, preserving or propagating historical material. In others, these themes are embodied in a more associative manner, drawing from archaeology, construction, agriculture and musculature.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.
