Valérie Mréjen

° 1969

Born in France, lives in Paris (France).

Artist, photographer, videoartist and writer, Valerie Mréjen multiplies the medium to better explore the possibilities of language, and to make her videos, she seeks inspiration in her memories, in day-to-day occurrences, and cruel and ironic details from her life. She combines different types of stories that she rewrites and reworks to later use them in her work with comedians and people around her. Valérie Mréjen is also the author of the documentary Pork and milk that in 2004 found fame. She has exhibited her work at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art in San Francisco, at the Jeu de Paume in Paris (2008) and at the Tate Modern in London (2006). Her first feature fiction, En ville, co-directed with Bertrand Schefer, was released in France after a premiere at the directors fortnight in Cannes 2011.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.

About M HKA Ensembles

The M HKA Ensembles represent our first steps towards initiating the public to today's art-related digital landscape. With the help of these new media, our aim is to offer our artworks a better and fuller array of support for their presentation and public understanding.
