This text is a verbatim transcript of an interview conducted one day before the opening of the exhibition. It’s too hot outside, so during our conversation at the M HKAFE, winnie t is enjoying a cup of coffee with a 20% discount. As a permanent member of staff at the museum, I’m having a coffee with a 40% discount.

M HKA: Expectations, positions and structures within the cultural world seem to be constantly shifting of late. Within this context, could you outline the rationale behind the concept for the upcoming INBOX presentation, here at the M HKA?

winnie t: “Imagine you’re on the top of an enlarged (scale 1000:1) donut. The glaze starts to melt under your feet, before any sleek word can save your ass, the slippery surface slopes you down to either the inside or the outside of the delight. This is the current situation of some organisations, and thus the immediate opportunity to overcome a near death fall-back is enabled; each invited organisation consults the others via lateral movements in back and forth collection and exchange to expose each other in their visible work made visible. All participating organisations acknowledge a conjuration as an unbearable state of a desperate fall-back, from which they choose to operate, performing flexible towards the opening of an exhibition. For which there is ¾ of a month for planning, ¾ of a month for opening, and ¾ of a yet to be defined diffuser.”

M HKA: Could you elaborate on the organisations involved in the project and how the collaboration came about?

w t: “Composed as a fusion in the form of a decentralized pyramid scheme between an intimate series of set-ups, M HKA, INBOX, Lichtekooi, winnie t, WePaint and others provide a space resembling the materialized narrative of both the cooperative sequence, and the individual components this scheme is composed of. Under a collaborative horizon, they unmask themselves as outsourcing agencies, stating to act open to invite the other.”

M HKA: What can visitors expect? The decentralized pyramid scheme between M HKA, INBOX, Lichtekooi, winnie t, WePaint and others provides a polyvalent performance of selling off as a survival method in the arts. The set-ups expose –even in a non-profit situation– feelings of being tied-up to an economic system, crawling through and exposing themselves as polyvalent containers. Saying yes to content from outside, but keeping an eye on the systemic framework in which this content can float and flow. Leaving any idea of authenticity outside of the framework to focus on the already existing narrative; a shared fall-back into collective residing at the border of the donut is staged as the only escape from a total sell-out.”

M HKA: It certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to be a traditional exhibition.
