Fred Eerdekens (°1951, Heusden-Zolder) works with word and image: he transforms an image - an object or a compilation of objects - in a curious way into a word or sentence and, conversely, catches the word in unexpected images. (programme Flor Bex)
The artist plays with the script each of us is so familiar with. He deconstructs it to reconstruct it again in a creative, utterly expressive way; during this process, he adds meaning to the written words. Eerdekens literally makes his pictures speak, although word and image do not necessarily have the same meaning. They exist alongside each other, but cannot live without each other: they colour each other's meaning and both contribute to the story.
