LATT: Graphology Chapter 2 – Focus on Typography

M HKA, Antwerpen

08 April 2011 - 12 June 2011

Graphology explored in four episodes the automatisms that may crop up in drawing. The human hand as a seismograph of the inner stirrings, but conversely, the 'unconscious mechanics' of the machine, which imposes itself on the human eye. In what way do graphic reproduction techniques lead a life of their own? A series of exhibitions at the intersection of drawing, photography, printmaking, film and computer graphics.

The second episode of Graphology explored the impact of typography. With the invention of the art of printing, the manuscript lost its monopoly. At the same time, the automation of writing generated a radical process of individualisation.

With works by artists including Carl Andre, Stefaan Brüggemann, Mekhitar Garabedian, Dean Hughes, Friedrich Nietzsche, Christophe Plantin, Simon Pummell and Salome Schmuki.
