M HKA, Antwerpen

The M HKA, in partnership with Antwerp Pride, is organising the exhibition TOGETHER., curated by artist Philip Huyghe. The exhibition runs from 6 August to 6 September. We invite several artists, including Carla Arocha & Stéphane Schraenen, Marijke De Roover, Philip Huyghe and Stef Van Looveren, to work together in a bubble of their own on themes that strengthen the LGBTQIA+ community, and create an inclusive exhibition. The invited artists such as Jack Davey, Kasper Bosmans, Jacolby Satterwhite, Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin and Megan-Leigh Heilig aim to use their visual language to shape an environment that celebrates diversity as a quality that brings exciting and challenging ideas to the world we all live in.

This year was to be the festive year that would celebrate the first ever Gay Pride Parade. Fifty years ago, on 28 June 1970, exactly one year after the infamous Stonewall riots, the first Gay Pride Parade took place in New York. These two historical events mark the birth of the LGBTQIA+ Civil Rights Movement, which has managed to implement its agenda around the world, thereby bringing about one of the most important social shifts of our times.

Because of the Corona measures, this year will be the first time without a parade, manifestations or celebrations. The organisation of Antwerp Pride has therefore decided to program smaller events under the name Together we Pride. They will take place from 5 to 9 August, in compliance with the applicable safety regulations.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.

About M HKA Ensembles

The M HKA Ensembles represent our first steps towards initiating the public to today's art-related digital landscape. With the help of these new media, our aim is to offer our artworks a better and fuller array of support for their presentation and public understanding.
