It is, as remembers his partner Lydia\u0026nbsp;Van Loock, an allusion to the saying \u0026lsquo;the sky is the limit\u0026rsquo; and a design idea\u0026nbsp;for a reinforced concrete construction that would illustrate that there are no\u0026nbsp;limits. Not to the sky. And even less to the human imagination.\u0026nbsp;\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eLike most artists Hugo Roelandt had a great number of unfinished and /\u0026nbsp;or unrealised projects. One of these notes for a never realised project\u0026nbsp;was this characteristic reaction to the familiar saying \u0026lsquo;the sky is the\u0026nbsp;limit\u0026rsquo;. He responded with \u0026ldquo;wij gaan de hemel uitbreiden\u0026rdquo; (Let\u0026rsquo;s expand\u0026nbsp;the sky\u0026rdquo;). Limits didn\u0026rsquo;t exist in Hugo\u0026rsquo;s mind. \u003cstrong\u003e\u0026ldquo;Let\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;expand the sky\u0026rdquo;\u003c/strong\u003e was\u0026nbsp;an expression of individual freedom which for him was the essence of all\u0026nbsp;art, and especially of performance art. But it also referred to a\u0026nbsp;concrete\u0026nbsp;project.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u0026quot;\u003cem\u003eHugo regularly worked in his atelier in the middle of the things that were\u0026nbsp;important for him. This resulted in separate, often manipulated objects, words\u0026nbsp;or (parts of) sentences written in Dutch or English, sketches of constructions,\u0026nbsp;of emplacements, or of images.\u0026nbsp;Title and form of the project \u0026lsquo;my sky\u0026rsquo; changed a few times. At a\u0026nbsp;certain\u0026nbsp;moment it became \u0026lsquo;my sky is your limit\u0026rsquo;: a sky in the form of a volume in\u0026nbsp;concrete which would be extended.\u0026nbsp;The fact that in 2005 he wrote down this new\u0026nbsp;version \u0026lsquo;Let\u0026rsquo;s expand the\u0026nbsp;sky\u0026rsquo; and especially explicitly dated and time stamped it, indicated it was a\u0026nbsp;phase in the development of the project which was being\u0026nbsp;closed. Meaning that\u0026nbsp;not the project was closed, but only this phase and design of it. A project could\u0026nbsp;evolve for years before reaching a finale phase.\u0026nbsp;Hugo was extremely critical and a perfectionist. He liked being on the\u0026nbsp;move: literally and figuratively in movement. He was an artist in everything,\u0026nbsp;always and everywhere.
