Among them a series of six coloured self portraits he\u0026nbsp;had first shown in 1973 during\u0026nbsp;an exhibition by former students of the\u0026nbsp;Academy of Aalst.\u0026nbsp;In 1993 he reworked these works and made them into large photo’s\u0026nbsp;glued on aluminium plates which,\u0026nbsp;together with a monochrome black\u0026nbsp;photo and a blank aluminium plate on which at the bottom only his\u0026nbsp;signature was engraved (it was at the same time\u0026nbsp;projected as a slide),\u0026nbsp;were conveived as an ‘aluminium book’. He showed the pages in the\u0026nbsp;Antwerp Academy as his graduation project at the Higher Institute for\u0026nbsp;Fine Arts HISK. Together with his\u0026nbsp;favourite cactus plant (lit by a spot)\u0026nbsp;and a large photo of a green elephant – a remembrance of his travelling\u0026nbsp;to India when he was in his twenties and visiting the\u0026nbsp;sacred Sikh shrine\u0026nbsp;at Amritsar.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn his very first interview the young Roelandt said about this work:\u003cbr\u003e\u003ci\u003e“Maybe this was an experiment in the interaction between graphics\u0026nbsp;and photography. Where does the photo begin and where does the\u0026nbsp;graphic intervention end and\u0026nbsp;vice-versa. Were they coloured photo’s\u0026nbsp;or photographic graphics?
