Literary synopsis

In the same way that the child turns, from one second to the next one, from joy to melancholy, Gregory Forstner tries to formulate the complexity of a sensation in a synthetic image. He doesn't seek to issue a critique, an opinion or to impose a moral in his work; the space of the canvas, like that of writing, is not such a place. Morality would reduce its impact and scope. Forstner's ambition is to achieve a raw, thrilling, irreducible, classical object from sophisticated means.
The truth is unkown. Forstner's way of approaching the world taking into account its absurdity is to be interpreted from his origins: as a (banal) curse from which, probably, he became an artist.

Relation of the novel to the artist’s practice

L'odeur de la viande is part of a wider project about life – which is related to Forstner's artistic practice.
