"One of my first works was called Mercury. It was made in 1966 and consisted of letters that had been taken from old American cars, such as an Oldsmobile, an old Ford Mercury and others. These letters were then glued to a wooden panel, creating an abstract facial image of the Greek god Mercury. Here letters create a picture, to which the viewer could give meaning." - Alexander Schleber
