As in D’Est: au bord de la fiction, the point of departure of this installation is a documentary, a journey, encounters with people. In it, Akerman recounts the story of a Mexican migrant, alternately in Spanish and English. Filming took place in the desert area on the border between Mexico and the United States of America. A screen has been set up in the middle of this desert, replicating the border that cuts across the mountainous region. A film is projected onto this screen, showing night shots of phantom-like human figures trying to cross the border; their movements are tracked through a viewfinder. These images are interspersed with shots of a highway going to Los Angeles. As the story unfolds, night gives way to dawn, and the projected images gradually become invisible.
