The Rebelión, Antagonism between Nature and Civilization (Green series), Paris, 1973

Nicolás Uriburu

Painting, 190 x 180 cm.
Materials: Reproductie (origineel: olieverf op doek)

After the then uprising Black Power, Uriburu stands up for Green Power. A common symbol of revolt against oppression, the fist was probably first depicted as such by French artist Honoré Daumier in his 1848 'The Uprising'; at the centre of the painting is a man with his sleeves rolled up and a clenched fist. The iconic red fist was later used internationally for various social trendences.
