“In Alex Reynolds’ film we see two hands belonging to two different people peeling the same orange. They are Alma and Nilo, friends, companions, and protagonists of other films and other vital passages in Alex’s life. Other genealogical lines, tasked with rewriting what the present holds as a seed, to discover that the everyday — an orange being peeled in the kitchen — is pregnant with possibility, with sweetness and with violence, and that in the dance that constitutes our interaction with the world, we can edit the inherited text and choose each time where, of whom, alongside whom, and when the present moment is born, and the next one, and thus, with it, memory.” (excerpt from A sponge, a text by Javi Cruz)

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.
