Sex and place vol.1, preliminaries, 2e editie

The exhibition (INBOX: I You Me We Us) extends the viewing of these videos with a publication that, in turn, uses these videos as a backdrop. The backdrop for upbringing a baby – cooking, healing, caressing, not sleeping — ; for partnership – raising, caressing, having sex, not sleeping — ; and for its overflow into other configurations — having lovers, discovering other worlds and other numbers beyond the 2 of the couple and the 2+1 of the child-rearing couple. It is a shared writing between Andrea Zavala and Adriano Wilfert, the nucleus of an extended family that explores the possibilities of a life on extra-normative sex-affective models. At some point, in some poem, Francis Ponge says that “The sponge is pure muscle, carried by the wind, by clean or dirty water, as the case may be, and he says—presumably for the better—that its gymnastics are ignoble”. (excerpt from A sponge, a text by Javi Cruz)

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.
