As the senior, Peeters was not merely a ceremonial honorary member; rather, he was closely involved in the start-up of the Antwerp neo-avant-garde. In this regard, the photograph taken in 1958 on the terrace of Middelheim Castle during one of the group's first meetings is telling. Peeters poses self-confidently among the young guard. By now, his enthusiasm knows almost no bounds. De foto die in 1958 van een van de eerste bijeenkomsten van de groep werd gemaakt op het terras van Kasteel Middelheim is wat dat betreft veelzeggend. Zelfbewust poseert Peeters tussen de jonge garde. Zijn enthousiasme kent ondertussen haast geen grenzen.
