The collection, accumulated by Robert Vrielynck (1933-2006), largely comprises early film cameras and projectors, as well as a large number of film posters. A smaller section of the collection consists of so-called pre-cinema devices, a term which is increasingly being replaced by that of media archaeology.\r\n\r\nThe Vrielynck Collection gives us an overview of the technical evolution of the film medium over a period of 150 years. The film equipment covers the domains of both professional cinema and amateur film. The collection also comprises a large number of curios and documents relating directly to the history of cinematography: publicity, photos, merchandising, shares, lobby cards, catalogues and Robert Vrielynck’s personal film library. It also includes several special pieces of equipment such as a camera that originally belonged to the Lumière brothers and a magic lantern in the form of the Eiffel Tower, manufactured as part of the Paris World Exhibition in 1889."},{"locale":"nl","short_description":"","description":"De Robert Vrielynck collectie vormt binnen België één van de weinige grote verzamelingen die een beeld geven van de (voor)geschiedenis van de film. De verzameling, bijeengebracht door notaris Robert Vrielynck, bestaat grotendeels uit vroege filmcamera’s en projectoren en bevat daarnaast een omvangrijk aantal filmposters uit een vroege periode tot eind jaren 70. Een kleiner deel van de verzameling bestaat uit apparaten die behoren tot de voorgeschiedenis van de film, de zogenaamde pre-cinema, een term die echter meer en meer in onbruik raakt, en vervangen wordt door de term media-archeologie.\r\n\r\nDe Vrielynck collectie geeft een overzicht van de technische evoluties van het medium film over een tijdsspanne van 150 jaar. De filmapparaten bestrijken het domein van de professionele cinema en dat van de amateurfilm. Verder zitten er in de collectie een groot aantal curiosa en documenten die rechtstreeks verband houden met de geschiedenis van de cinematografie: publiciteit, foto’s, merchandising, aandelen, lobby cards, catalogi en de persoonlijke filmbibliotheek van Vrielynck. Ook bevat de collectie een aantal bijzondere apparaten zoals een authentieke camera van de gebroeders Lumière en een toverlantaarntje in de vorm van een Eiffeltoren, uitgebracht naar aanleiding van de Wereldtentoonstelling in Parijs, 1889.
