Een kleine reus viel in de beek verloren (1965) is a typical example of one of De Vree’s concrete poems. In the poem De Vree repeats this sentence nine times, line by line, omitting the last letter of every word, so that the entire poem and each letter is washed away bit by bit. Using these types of elementary tools, De Vree tries to achieve greater understanding without compromising on depth. The poem is a visual presentation of its own structure.
