The\u0026nbsp;first \u003cem\u003ePepto Bismo\u003c/em\u003e \u0026ndash; a high-performance, portable\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nflying machine worn on the pilot\u0026rsquo;s back \u0026ndash; was\u0026nbsp;created in 1994, followed by \u003cem\u003eSuper Pepto Bismo\u003c/em\u003e\u0026nbsp;two years later. Rather than air displacement via\u0026nbsp;a fan, as in the rucksacks, the machine is propelled\u0026nbsp;by a series of short rotor blades driven by\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nsmall but powerful engines. The helicopter principle\u0026nbsp;allows the pilot to take off vertically and to\u0026nbsp;steer entirely by moving his or her body. In the\u0026nbsp;years that followed, Panamarenko came up with\u0026nbsp;variations in which the rotors \u0026ndash; which revolve\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nin opposite directions \u0026ndash; are driven by powerful\u0026nbsp;nickel and cadmium batteries. He developed a\u0026nbsp;newer version still in 2002, which he mounted on\u0026nbsp;a dummy, dressed as an aviator. The pilot wears\u0026nbsp;a crash helmet and a headset. The new design\u0026nbsp;sought to address the problem earlier versions\u0026nbsp;had with overheating batteries. The issue was\u0026nbsp;solved using six small petrol engines, placed on\u0026nbsp;a metal shaft located horizontally above the pilot\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;shoulders.
