Liliane Vertessen

1998

Photography, 63,2 x 50,7 cm (framed: 65 x 53 cm).
Materials: colour photograph (ed. 50 + A.P.)

Collection: M HKA, Antwerp - Donated by the artist, 1999 (Inv. no. S0258_01).

Liliane Vertessen uses her own body as an artistic medium. Photography is central to her work, often combined with feathers, sequins, sensual fabrics and neon lettering. Vertessen’s work is both an ode to the female body and a critique of the dominant male gaze that reduces women to sex objects. Ready to go shows the artist getting ready to dive into the nightlife.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.
