After photographs of bare white spaces of an abandoned military hospital, the film continues with a stream of thought that reflect the artist\u0026rsquo;s impressions after a visit there. Like in a bad dream, appearing in a ground plan of the hospital is an image of a lifeless female body, a rat starting to gnaw at it. A purple ink splat \u0026ndash; or is it blood? \u0026ndash; runs out until her whole face is covered. And in there too, just for an instant, Botticelli\u0026rsquo;s Birth of Venus becomes visible. Through the use of symbols and via a deliberate choice of colors, Kenawy translates her own impressions into a universal visual language that an instinctive reading of her work demands. What she shows in \u003cem\u003eStop - You Will Be Killed\u003c/em\u003e, can still best be described as the essence of violence and war, without literally referring to any one specific conflict. To avoid enlisting actual war victims, Kenawy uses herself as model. In this way the artist goes beyond the particular, and her works take on a timeless and borderless character. \u0026ldquo;If you critically look at human experience, this is what we\u0026rsquo;re left with: a universal language that surpasses the whole of political, religious or cultural domains. Een paarse inktvlek- of is het bloed?- loopt uit tot haar hele gezicht bedekt is. Heel even wordt daarin ook De geboorte van Venus van Botticelli zichtbaar. Door gebruik te maken van symbolen en via het bewust gekozen kleurgebruik vertaalt Kenawy haar eigen indrukken in een universele beeldtaal die om een instinctieve lezing van haar werk vraagt. Wat ze in \u003cem\u003eStop - You Will Be Killed\u0026nbsp;\u003c/em\u003etoont, kan nog het best omschreven worden als de essentie van geweld en oorlog, zonder letterlijk te refereren naar een bewust conflict. Om geen beroep te moeten doen op foto\u0026rsquo;s van echte oorlogsslachtoffers gebruikt Kenawy zichzelf als model. Op deze manier overstijgt de kunstenares het particuliere en krijgen haar werken een tijdloos en grenzeloos karakter. \u0026ldquo;Als je menselijke ervaringen kritisch bevraagt, is dit wat je overhoudt: een universele taal die al het politieke, religieuze of culturele overstijgt.
