Peindre avec de l’air et de la fumée
Fumée, flammes, pluie et air. Comment saisir la fugacité de ces éléments ? C’est la question que se posent Piero Manzoni, Yves Klein ou encore Jef Verheyen. Ils explorent les limites de la peinture et cherchent la frontière avec un art plus conceptuel. Le concept ou l’idée derrière l’œuvre revêt à leurs yeux une importance fondamentale. Dans l’œuvre de Verheyen, cela se traduit par des titres tels que Ruimte (Espace) et Niet Ruimte (Non-espace).
Si Jef Verheyen lui-même reste fidèle à l’art de la peinture, en collaborant avec d’autres artistes, poètes et architectes, il explore toutefois d’autres disciplines artistiques. Sa collaboration en plein air avec Günther Uecker, par exemple, est un projet de Land Art avant la lettre. Avec l’architecte Renaat Braem, Jef Verheyen conçoit une installation pour le projet architectural Integratie 64. Verheyen est également un des commissaires de cette exposition – un rôle qu’il assumera à de multiples reprises.
