Jacques André
° 1969
Works in Brussels (BE), born in Brussels (BE).
Jacques André addresses the precariousness of being an artist in his practice, playfully considering the double bind of both state and market ideologies for individuals living under neoliberal capitalism. Many of his works look at the status of being unemployed, which he was for many years, whereas other works consider the act of collecting, mainly of records and books, in terms of both fandom as well as the rarification of artefacts that this can create. André was himself also a participant in rave culture during the early 1990s, and even organised a rave at the ERG art academy in Brussels whilst he was a student there.
