Meeting Points est un festival d’art contemporain multidisciplinaire axé sur la présentation contextualisée de l’art du monde arabe, organisé par le Young Arab Theatre Fund en coopération avec des partenaires régionaux et internationaux. La 7ème édition de Meeting Points était une série d’expositions consécutives organisées de septembre 2013 à juin 2014 dans différentes villes de l’Europe, l’Asie et du monde arabe : Zagreb, Anvers, Hongkong, Moscou, Beyrouth, Caire et Vienne.
Cette édition a été assurée par WHW. What, How and for Whom est un collectif de commissaires d’exposition fondé en 1999 et établi à Zagreb et à Berlin. Les membres sont les commissaires d’exposition Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić et Sabina Sabolović et, en outre, le dessinateur et l’agent publicitaire Dejan Kršić. WHW organise une série de projets de production, d’exposition et de publication et gère la Galerie Nova à Zagreb.
Meeting Points 7 fut organisé pendant les séquelles souvent ambigües des insurrections populaires qui ont ébranlé le monde arabe en 2011, dans une période où différents mouvements sociaux dans le monde entier ont ravivé la discussion publique sur l’ordre social et économique existant.
Le titre Dix mille artifices et cent mille ruses est une citation du livre Les damnés de la Terre (1961) du philosophe révolutionnaire Franz Fanon (°1925-†1971). Son livre situe le pouvoir et la violence des colons dans une perspective historique et politique.
En calibrant des degrés d’identité et une différence entre le passé et le présent, Dix mille artifices et cent mille ruses s’est adaptée aux régions spécifiques et aux histoires dans lesquelles elle a été réalisée. Elle a juxtaposé des œuvres plus récentes d’artistes et de cinéastes contemporains à des positions historiques. Au M HKA, ces deux aspects de l’exposition ont été éclaircis par une sélection d’œuvres de la collection du musée.
