Tentoonstelling: Meeting Points 7 – Tienduizend listen en honderdduizend trucs

Meeting Points is een multidisciplinair hedendaags kunstenfestival gericht op de gecontextualiseerde voorstelling van kunst uit de Arabische wereld, georganiseerd door het Young Arab Theatre Fund in samenwerking met regionale en internationale partners. De 7e editie van Meeting Points was een reeks opeenvolgende tentoonstellingen die plaatsvonden van september 2013 tot juni 2014 in verschillende steden van Europa, Azië en de Arabische wereld: Zagreb, Antwerpen, Hongkong, Moskou, Beiroet,Caïro en Wenen.
Deze editie werd verzorgd door WHW. What, How and for Whom is een curatorieel collectief opgericht in 1999 en gevestigd in Zagreb en Berlijn. De leden zijn curator Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić en Sabina Sabolović en, daarnaast, ontwerper en publiciteitsagent Dejan Kršić. WHW organiseert een scala aan productie-, tentoonstellings- en publicatieprojecten en beheert de Galerij Nova in Zagreb.
Meeting Points 7 werd georganiseerd tijdens de vaak dubbelzinnige nasleep van de volksopstanden die de hele Arabische wereld op zijn grondvesten deden schudden in 2011, in een periode waarin ook verscheidene sociale bewegingen over de hele wereld de publieke discussie over de bestaande sociale en economische orde aanwakkerden.
De titel Tienduizend listen en honderdduizend trucs is een citaat uit het boek De verworpenen der aarde (1961) van de revolutionaire filosoof Franz Fanon (°1925-†1971). Zijn boek plaatst de macht en het geweld van de kolonisten hun een historisch en politiek perspectief.
Door te peilen naar de geledingen van identiteit en verschil tussen het verleden en het heden stemde Tienduizend listen en honderdduizend trucs zich af op de specifieke regio's en geschiedenissen waarin het gerealiseerd werd. Het confronteerde recentere werken van hedendaagse kunstenaars en cineasten met historische standpunten. In het M HKA werden deze twee aspecten van de tentoonstelling verhelderd door een selectie van werken uit de collectie van het museum.
