Exposition: Jan Fabre – Stigmata, Actions & Performances 1976-2013

Le réalisateur d’exposition légendaire Germano Celant a réalisé, avec Jan Fabre (°1958, Anvers), au MAXXI à Rome, l’exposition : Stigmata, Actions & Performances 1976-2013. Cette exposition a ensuite eu lieu au M HKA et a poursuivi son voyage d’Anvers au, par exemple, MAC à Lyon.
Stigmata a présenté un aperçu approfondi des performances de Jan Fabre. L’image d’exposition initiale était un prolongement radical d’un mode de présentation que l’artiste avait déjà essayé lors de Homo Faber (MuHKA, 2006) : les instruments des performances sont présentés sur des plateaux de table en verre, posés sur des tréteaux. Dans Stigmata, il en a fait un flux de dizaines de tables, sur lesquelles de vieux souvenirs de performances ont été ressuscités de manières les plus diverses : au moyen des objets que Jan Fabre utilise, par le biais de maquettes qu’il appelle des ‘modèles de pensée’, avec des dessins, des photos et toutes sortes de matériel que l’on appellerait ‘documentaire’.
De tout côté, des figures surgissaient de ce flux de tables, portant les costumes de ses performances. Cette exposition s’est également développée dans la hauteur, sur les murs, ayant non seulement une trentaine d’enregistrements de vidéo, mais aussi des suites de dessins et de photos monumentales qui étaient des images en soi, tout comme les serpillières BIC connues de la collection du M HKA.
Stigmata, Actions & Performances 1976–2013 était un aperçu vif et généreux qui n’était pas une exposition, mais une présentation qui a trouvé une forme puissante dans laquelle les performances résonnent encore dans tous les esprits et pouvaient être redécouvertes.
L’exposition fut réalisée en coopération avec Angelos et a pu être réalisée grâce au soutien de At The Gallery et LIMA.
