Tentoonstelling: Jan Fabre – Stigmata, Acties & Performances 1976–2013

De legendarische tentoonstellingsmaker Germano Celant maakte samen met Jan Fabre (°1958, Antwerpen) in het MAXXI in Rome de tentoonstelling: Stigmata, Actions & Performances 1976–2013. Deze tentoonstelling kwam nadien naar het M HKA en reisde vanuit Antwerpen verder naar bijvoorbeeld het MAC in Lyon.
Stigmata gaf op een diepgaande manier een overzicht van de performances van Jan Fabre. Het initiële tentoonstellingsbeeld was een radicale doortrekking van een presentatiewijze die de kunstenaar al uittestte tijdens Homo Faber (MuHKA, 2006): instrumenten van performances worden gepresenteerd op werktafels met glazen bladen op schragen. In Stigmata werd dit een stroom van tientallen tafels, waar op de meest diverse manieren herinneringen aan performances werden opgehaald: door middel van de objecten die Jan Fabre gebruikt, aan de hand van maquettes die hij ‘denkmodellen’ noemt, met tekeningen, foto’s en allerlei materiaal dat men ‘documentair’ zou noemen.
Her en der kwamen uit die stroom van tafels gestalten op, met de kostuums van zijn performances. Op de muren ging deze tentoonstelling de hoogte in, met naast een dertigtal film- en videoregistraties ook suites van tekeningen en monumentale foto’s die beelden op zich waren, alsook de bekende BIC-dweilen uit de M HKA-collectie.
Stigmata, Acties & Performances 1976–2013 was een genereus, levendig overzicht dat geen tentoonstelling was, maar een presentatie die een krachtige vorm heeft gevonden waarin de performances nog nazinderen en opnieuw konden worden ontdekt.
De tentoonstelling werd gerealiseerd in samenwerking met Angelos en was mogelijk dankzij de steun van At The Gallery en LIMA.
